Paul Knight

In 1971 Paul became the first freshman to start on a Glen Rock varsity soccer team. During his four years playing for Coach Bill Carbone, the team won four Bergen Passaic Scholastic League championships and played twice for state sectional titles. He was named All-League three times, All-County and All-State twice, and in his senior year he was designated a New Jersey Top 33 player. He was selected to The Bergen Record’s All-Decade and All-Century teams! He was also named GRHS most outstanding soccer player in the school’s first fifty years.

Paul played collegiate soccer at Philadelphia Textile. The team went to the Division 1 Final Four in 1978. He was drafted in the first round by the Pennsylvania Stoners of the American Soccer League. He was also drafted by the Detroit Express of the North American Soccer League. Paul also played three years of semi-pro soccer in the New York/New Jersey area.

After college he returned to Glen Rock and coached the Glen Rock freshmen team in 1995. Paul is married to Charleen and they have three daughters. The family moved to Michigan in 1997. He continues his involvement in soccer as a coach of his children’s club teams.
