Mark Hannon scored 47 touchdowns, threw for 19 and scored 303 career points as he helped lead Glen Rock Football to four consecutive State Sectional titles and three BPSL League titles. Mark was named to the Record’s All Decade Team as a utility player for his substantial accomplishments on the gridiron as a receiver, kicker and quarterback.
As a junior, Mark generally played wide receiver but also occasionally played quarterback or halfback – as well as being the team’s punter and kicker – and was a standout defensive back. He earned the 1st Team, All County and 1st Team, All State that year and helped lead Glen Rock to an 11-1 overall record. As a senior, Mark played quarterback and passed for 19 touchdowns and ran for an additional 22 touchdowns to lead Glen Rock to the fifth of its five consecutive State Sectional Championships. That year, Mark was selected as the quarterback for the 1st Team, All County and was also selected as the quarterback for the 1st Team, Group 1, North Jersey.
The winter saw Mark on the basketball court helping the Panthers to a league championship in 2001/2002 and gaining Honorable Mention, All-County honors in 2002/2003.
Mark joined the Track Team in 2003 and was named 1st Team All-BPSL in the Javelin and Long Jump. He was the Group 1, Bergen County Champion in the 100 Meters and the Group 1, State Sectional Champion in the 100 and 200 Meters. He was also a member (with Ryan McCann, Rob Grammar and Dean Leong) of the school -record -setting Boys’ Sprint Medley Relay team.
After graduating from Glen Rock, Mark starred on Amherst’s football team and was named to the 1st Team, All NESCAC both as a junior and as a senior. He was the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference in 2005/2006 as well as the team’s Co-Captain.
Mark is working in digital media and ad sales for USA Today Sports and will marry Kate Schmidlin in May of 2017. He is the proud uncle of five nieces and nephews.
