Julie earned 11 varsity letters and was selected as captain for all three of her teams (soccer, basketball and track) in her senior year. She performed at a high level throughout her career and was selected as Athlete of the Year in each of her four years at Glen Rock High School. She was awarded All State honors in soccer and both All-Suburban and All-County honors in both basketball and track.
An outstanding runner, Julie was the state sectional champion in both the 100 and 200 meters as a junior .She placed second in the 400 and sixth in the 200 at the BMOC in 1979.
On the soccer field she led the Panthers to a statewide rank of ninth by the Star Ledger in 1980, having earned her All-State kudos the year before. She was also a key contributor on the basketball court for Coaches Law and Gemma while at Glen Rock.
A basketball scholarship to St. Bonaventure University led to a storied performance there that saw her set both the career steals (243) and assists (338) records as a four year player. ( Julie still ranks second and sixth in those categories). She went to Wall Street upon graduation and is currently employed as a Vice President for Business Development at Municipal Bond Broker HJ Sims.
The challenges of a Wall Street career and raising three great daughters (Kara, Rory and Molly) with husband of 14 years (Jeff) haven’t been enough to consume Julie, so she has used her extra energy to run in the Boston Marathon (and other races) and climb Mount Rainier and two 20,000 foot peaks in Mexico in her spare time. She also skis, paddle boards, bikes and travels to fill the hours.
Note: The James Gang (Julie, Merilee and Dierdre) was a prominent feature on the Glen Rock sports scene in Julie’s junior year as all three competed together in each season – a great source of pride and satisfaction for the family.
