Carl Zaisser

Coach Carl Zaisser was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Perdue University. He taught physical education and driver education at Glen Rock High School from 1958 until his retirement in 1983. He was the school’s first baseball coach and led the team for nineteen seasons. The team’s record during that time was 223-167. He was named Bergen County Coach of the year in 1973. His teams were selected to play in many Bergen County Coaches Baseball tournaments and he established one of the most respected programs in the county.

Carl also served as Glen Rock’s first Director of Recreation and held that position for more than twenty years. He instituted the well-regarded summer playground program and oversaw the swimming program at the pool.

He was a noted piano player and performed throughout the New York/New Jersey area in Dixieland and jazz bands. Upon his retirement, he moved to Chatham, MA, where he served as General Manager of the Chatham A’s baseball team in the Cape Cod Collegiate Baseball League. Carl passed away in March 1991.
